A heads-up that plans for a WMF-owned URL shortener are going to be a
topic at this IRC meeting tomorrow, as that's an idea which we have
been discussing in the social media team in the past, too (although
IIRC that was mostly before t.co became the mandatory URL shortener on
Twitter).

Subject: [Wikitech-l] short RfC review meeting Wednesday: five quick decisions
To: Wikimedia developers <[email protected]>

This Wednesday, 2100-21:30 UTC, let's have a thirty-minute RfC review
meeting to check on a few proposals to consolidate, and whether a few
authors have done their next steps from the last few months. (If people
want to answer these questions onlist/onwiki that's fine too.)

I have some open questions:
[...]
   2. URL
shortener<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/URL_shortener>(and
URL
   Shortener
Service<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/URL_shortener_service_for_Wikimedia>,
probably to be consolidated). Do we have the implementation details Tim
   wanted?

[...]

We'll talk in #wikimedia-office on Freenode, at 2100 UTC on March 12:
