You can get the length of the HTTP Request in bytes from getContentLength() method from the HTTP request. Then you can derive the length in characters from that. As for determining the length of individual parts of the message, I am not sure if there's an existing interface for that. It wouldn't be hard to implement that yourself, though. If you'd like some ideas on how to approach this, let me know. I'd be happy to help.
