Your concept of building this setup is at the border of insanity.
ZFS uses a POOL of disks, so it does what it says: bundling a couple of HARDDISKS in a POOL, and it provides options to create redundancy in this pool. (like RAID variants) This is the ZPOOL Once you created a pool you can create data blobs (ZFS command) and each data blob can have dedicated roles and block sizes. SmartOS has provided an easy setup for creating the first ZPOOL and a ZFS file system for each virtual machine. Since this was always a kind of vague procedure in the old Solaris 10 environment. SmartOS is a specific and dedicated OS for creating a high performance virtualisation system, based on the illumos kernel. For what you want sounds like virtual machines with an iSCSI drive you better could use two systems: 1 running SmartoS for the vitual machines and 1 machine as a dedicated iSCSI file system. Illumos -> SmartOS -> best of class virtualisation platform Illumos ->Nexenta -> commercial enterprise grade storage with iSCSI Illumos ->Openindiana -> open source flexible storage and GUI Illumos ->Openindiana ->napp-it -> open source flexible storage and GUI + very flexible and easy storage systems Van: 龙白滔 [mailto:[email protected]] Verzonden: dinsdag 30 augustus 2016 8:47 Aan: [email protected] Onderwerp: [smartos-discuss] Can COMSTAR run in a user zone? Hi, We'd like to run a COMSTAR based storage virtualization solution on SmartOS. The problem is that COMSTAR seems available only in GZ. In my understanding, GZ seems the all resourdes of the entire machine and can use all of them. However, we still allocate some VMs (of KVM, native zone, or lx zone type) on the machine. So I'd like to cap the resources for the storage virtualziaton service running in GZ. I guess this won't work. Therefore I'd like to run the service in a UZ. To achieve this, I plan to add each HDD disk to a UZ, and in the UZ expose each disk using COMSTAR. Is that possible? Your information will be apprecaited.
