I would like to contribute that my USB3.0 external seagate drive works
properly with the Mac OS driver (v0.8 on Yosemite) found here:
https://github.com/kasbert/OS-X-SAT-SMART-Driver and that smartmontools on
Mac OS then reports proper SMART information.
