Hi all,

The Slurm accounting database allows you to enforce things like the maximum
number of jobs that a user can be running at once (or even queued at once).
I don't understand all of the options the Slurm accounting database has, so
here is my question presented as a detailed scenario.

I want to assign users so many abstract "service units" that should be
exhausted based on TRES. For instance, let's say (arbitrarily) that 1
service unit equals either using 1 core for an hour or using 8 GB of RAM
for an hour. I would like to be able to make that definition. Then, I want
to assign an account or user in the Slurm accounting database so many
"service units." Say I assign a user 5 service units. The, the user should
be able to submit jobs and use CPUs and RAM (given the above definition)
until their service units are exhausted. It doesn't matter to me if they
exhaust their SUs in one day or slowly over one year. However, what does
matter is that the user is unable to run anymore jobs (even jobs that are
already queued) if their SUs have been exhausted. The only way they should
be able to run more jobs is if I (a) increase their total number of SUs or
(b) decrease/reset their total number of *used* SUs. That is, I want the
SUs to be tracked permanently.

Sorry, that was a mouthful, but important. Does anyone know if Slurm can
accomplish this for me. If so how?

Thanks,
Jacob Chappell
