Our rule of thumb at home is: Get Rid Of ALUMINUM.
We changed (at a high investment) for stainless steel.


I may as well reply again, seeing I am so gabby tonight.

I read that SS was great - until you burn something in it, and use abrasive 
scouring powders etc. to clean it off.  The article said that it then 
releases Nickel (if my memory serves.)
Another disappointment.
But it reminded me of the Reader's Digest "Towards more picturesque speech" 
years ago.  A couple were buying SS pans and the assistant was giving them 
care instructions.  " . . . and don't use abusive cleaners."

So: be kind and gentle and polite to your saucepans.
