About 35 years ago,my bitter half and I built a Log house/cabin in the Cariboo
country of B.C. from scratch. To hoist the logs,I rigged what is called a cargo
boom on a nearby tree ,Using some pulleys ,wire rope[cables] hooked to the
bumper of the car ,my wife would ease the car forward lowering the boom.I would
hook a sling around the log,she would back up thereby raising the log.The boom
was on a swivel and I would swing it around onto the building. She would ease
forward lowering the boom and the log into position. This took a lot of the
"urk" out of the work.
I would have used a ramp, but that would have meant removing some trees which I
didn't want to do.Using a ramp would still have taken a fair amount of power
too.
AHHH!!!!! the good old days.
