In my early to mid forties, my dentist was keeping records of my receding
gum measurements. He is no longer doing so at 51. My first success was by
merely rinsing with CS. Later successes began by brushing with Ivory soap
and CS.

These days I rotate brushing with any of these substances and various
combinations:
Listerine only (brown), when in a hurry.
Pure coconut oil soap, lather made with CS, add a drop of Oil of Oregano.
Baking soda, CS, OoO, for more cleaning.
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, CS, OoO for rigorous cleaning only about once
in two weeks.

I floss 1-3 times daily and always have a variety of "floss picks" or "brush
picks" around because of problems around crowns.

I use a Water Pik with warm water and Listerine as often as I can remember
to.

I have a dental pick for removing plaque that I still pick up around my
lower front teeth.
