This has been a well known historical fact for many years. If you don't believe it, the onus is on you to disprove it, as far as I am concerned...
One source I saw cited Polar Bear liver as containing 40,000 IU in one gram of liver... I'm sure some people tolerate large doses of Vitamin A better than others. Children, for example, are supposed to be more sensitive. Dan >>> Terry Chamberlin <[email protected]> 10/9/2005 3:28:31 PM >>> > Actually, you can kill yourself by eating too much Polar Bear liver due to the high vitamin A content.< Actually, I would question that statement. Who says that? The same folks who caution Vit A overdose? The same folks who make absolutely no distinction between natural vitamins and synthetic ones? If there was a problem with eating too much Polar bear liver (how much is that?), it isn't necessarily because of Vit A overdose. On the subject of vitamin safety, natural vs synthetic, see the following: http://www.www.saras-autism-diet.freeservers.com/ Diet/Vitamin-A.html "In controlled studies, high-dose vitamin A therapy (Hi-VAT)--with 400,000 IU vitamin A--has been demonstrated to markedly reduce measles-associated morbidity and mortality." See also: www.naturalrearing.com/J_In_Learning/NutritionSupplements/VitaminsNaturalvsSynthetic.html "In the last decade, numerous, large scale, studies have confirmed that synthetic vitamins can and do present a clear cut danger, whereas the same vitamins from foods show no evidence of harm. For example, in late 1995 a direct link between synthetic vitamin A and birth defects was reported as the results of a four year study involving 22,748 pregnant women. The results of this study show a 240% increase in birth defects when the women took 10,000iu per day and a staggering 400% increase in risk from taking 20,000iu per day of synthetic vitamin A. The researchers were very careful to point out that the risk from actual foods containing natural vitamin A presented NO BIRTH DEFECTS!! No amount of naturally occurring vitamin A, even liver which contains as much as 30,000iu in three ounces, showed any evidence of contributing to birth defects." This next website doesn't specifically discuss Vit A, but it does give a good explanation of synthetic Vitamins. www.greatestherbsonearth.com/articles/natural_vitamins.htm This next site also explains things well, even though they do promote their own products. http://www.carair.com/natural.htm Here's another good site. http://liquid-vitamins.info/natural-vitamins-vs-synthetic.htm And another very good one. http://www.newstarget.com/001587.html And another. www.nutritionhelpguide.com/Information_Center/Natural_vs_synthetic/natural_vs_synthetic.asp Actually, I did make a mistaken statement: I said synthetic vitamins were made from petroleum by-products. They aren't. They are made from coal-tar derivatives. Isn't that better? __________________________________________________________ Find your next car at http://autos.yahoo.ca -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver.
