Respected Sol,
A symptom that comes up directly is my wife’s horrible handwriting. She just is not able do increase the neatness of her letters.
<<is your wife's mild dyslexia worse when she is tired, stressed, etc>>
Not that I have noticed. She has always had a problem writing; when chatting with her friend in Medellín she prefers me to write her sentences in Spanish, she prompting to me what to write down. And offical letters she wants me to look over and correct, although she knows that I am not altogether well versed in Spanish, which really is not an easy language to write.
<< Does she have any verbal problems?>>
No, not at all. She is a good, rapid talker, good at telling jokes and the like. She did have a problem in school as a little girl, when she was not able to “write right” and was badly scolded for that, which caused her dad almost to make a fatal mistake in that same school. You may have had that same horrible experience with short-sighted teachers. Yet she found enough sustain to make it to University where her studies (medicine) were ended not by her problem, but by the ending of her first marriage. <<I sometimes have a slight stutter, more often I can't call to mind the right word, and sometimes have the word but can't speak it correctly. I was middle-aged when I finally was told these are all mild dyslexia related.>> In my teaching experience of more than two and a half decade, I have often found, that dyslexia simply is not recognized, or badly diagnosed, and treated totally erroneous. My questions to parents mostly are about the birth of the child concerned. Yet, the pupil, and the teacher and the parents working together in close harmony can be of great help to the kid. Your symptoms may be far different from some one else; the measurement of dyslexia can be quite fine. Point is: How do you live with it, and how are you approached out-there. <<Not stupid, but can sure make a person look and feel stupid in social situations.>> We’d agree, but fortunately not everyone is shortsighted (stupid) enough to make you feel “less” than the rest of the pack. <<I make embarrassing mistakes as sometimes I read things wrongly, because my reading can skip words, transpose words, and even skip or garble whole sentences>> Be kind to yourself, Sol, many people will be able to understand, and stand by you. And those who will not, well they have a lot, a LOT to learn, and probably a LOT to get through yet. <<but often can be if I hurry too much.>> Master says: Hurry, Curry and Worry .. the greatest enemies you have.

I hope to be of a little help to you.
Luz is already sleeping, but we will read your message, and she may want to add things of value to you.

Thanks for your confidence,
Faith
