I used to filter. People on the forum used to talk about bubbling with an aquarium bubbler while making the CS, but I never got around to it. Then a friend bought me a bubbler, and since then I haven't had any need to filter, as there are no grey whiskers to get rid of. I made a hole in the top of the metal lid of my glass jar, stuck the plastic tube through that so the end was down in the liquid, and when I switch the generator on I switch on the bubbler also. It makes a bit of a bubbly noise - what a surprise! - which is a reminder that there is a batch of CS brewing. The bubbler itself will make a noise from its vibration depending on what you stand it on; you can make it quieter or louder as you wish.
