This is a repost from last year for those interested:

KY jelly ingredients

Propylene Glycol, Polyethylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, Lactic
Acid

The effectiveness can be GREATLY increased by adding some DMSO to the
gel. I would recommend as the first try using Polyethylene Glycol, DMSO
and CS. The gel version of DMSO from Neogen Corporation uses
Polyethylene Glycol as it's thickening agent, so it should all be very
compatible.

Organic thickeners are:

Xanthan gum
carrageenan
agar agar
gelatin
guar gum
cellulose gum

In regards to Pharmaceutical agents for making Topical Gels--
Methylcellulose
Hydroxypropyl Cellulose
Lipoil
Poloxamer NF
Pluronic F127
Polyethylene Glycol

In all cases if organic thickeners are used a preservative MUST be used
to prevent fungus growth. CS in a gel has too low a mobility to prevent
mold growth. This should not be necessary if using pharmaceutical
agents as no nutrients should be available..
The following is a recipe that some on the CS list are using, I don't
remember who originally posted it:

90 ml CS
2 ml Xanthum Gum
10 ml Aloe Vera concentrate (I use 1:10)
a few drops of a preservative, such as grapefruit seed extract.
sodium bicarb
Gently heat the CS till it's lukewarm (this will make the gum melt more
easily) sprinkle the gum and beat vigorously. If you don't want to
introduce air bubbles into your mixture, keep the whisk on the bottom of
the pan. Add the AV concentrate and preservative. (I've found that after
about three weeks the gel develops a mold of some description. This is
about two
weeks longer than using just water, so the CS is doing something, just not
for
very long.) Bring the mixture back to around 7 ph with sodium bicarb
using
litmus paper. You can use other thickening agents such as cellulose gum,
roughly twice as much should do it.
