I came across some posts on this subject on the off topic list several weeks ago. Mike D. and Brooks B. put out enough good info on it then to pique my curiosity. My wife has had severe cramps and heavy bleeding at menstruation for 32 years. Nothing has ever really helped. Many times she has just had to go to bed for 2 days.
I ordered Amaranth seed from a North Dakota flax farm and received it last week. Today she had cramps and I made her the tea as best I knew how. 8 ounces boiling water, two heaping teaspoons (eating teaspoons) seed, and steeped for 5 minutes. The first batch seemed nearly tasteless but had a mild aroma. She drank it and went nearly straight to sleep. She's not real sure yet if it's working, but she felt good enough about it to make and take it 3 more times today. My question is- Are we making it right? Are there others who will share any more information about this subject? BTW- I ate some of the leftover- with a little salt it tastes like grits or cornmeal mush- it had a pronounced and quick diuretic effect on me.
