I too have had many spayed females who did not have incontinence. However, it is not unusual, and I currently have a spayed female who is incontinent. As this article states, it is not really spay incontinence: it is hormone responsive incontinence. It doesn't happen in all spayed bitches, but it does happen frequently. Please read the article: http://www.crozetgazette.com/2012/01/gazette-vet-spay-incontinence/ Do keep in mind that not all spayed females have this problem, and if yours do not, be grateful. I have two spayed bitches. One has spay incontinence, and the saddest part for me is that she is the cleanest dog I have ever had. She doesn't even realize this is happening. Medications really help a lot, but they don't stop it entirely. I use Proin which is my vet's med of choice. If she had never been spayed, she most likely would not have this problem. But there are other problems if they are not spayed. I had one female who was not spayed until she was about six years old. Like most of the females I have had, she never had incontinence and she lived to be 15. Since all my dogs are the same breed, my incontinent dog is not a breed thing.
