I tried doing the cabbage only and the taste, to me, was awful I couldn't get 
it 
down. Does the pineapple cover or help with it?

We put the cabbage through the juicer. Then we put them together in the crock.  
Put a bit of salt and pineapple, put a heavy plate over it, then cover with 
plastic, set it on top of fridge.  In three days time we get good kraut.  Hubby 
drinks the juice which is good for body.
