The typical Alkaline water maker uses 2 platinum electrodes in two separate
chambers connected by a tube stuffed with reverse osmosis water filter
material or chammy cloth to keep things from intermingling.
"Quick and Dirty".. from an experiment in curiosity done several years back.
This works [I can't fathom "why"..can make a guess though. ]
Place each silver electrode of a DC out CS generator in a separate glass of
distilled water placed next to each other and hang a loop of copper wire
over the edges, ends draped into the water to connect them electrically.
Don't exceed around 20 volts.
One glass makes ionic silver [proven by lack of flavor, increased
conductivity and violent reaction to H2O2 ]
The other makes Alkaline water. [proven by the characteristic "bitter"
flavor and no reaction the H2O2 ]
..should test that with a PH meter or Litmus paper, I don't remember if I
did or not.
[ Haven't tried this..might not work, but don't know why it wouldn't any
more that I know why the above did...]
To prevent making Ag+ water, substitute the silver wire for copper
wire...just keep the voltage down to prevent making colloidal copper.
Since the water won't be gaining conductivity from silver Ag [+] ions as
the other side gains OH[-] anions [aka "Ionized" ] that might be a lot
slower.
It might possibly go to making Hydronium H3O[+] ions instead though and
become acid water. [Can't say I understand it all ]

Well, but what would you use in place of the silver to make alkaline
water, if you didn't want to drink that much CS? Because the ones touting
the electrolyzed water say it should be drunk all day long, and that's
just too much CS to drink every day.

A CS generator makes that as a by product along with the silver ions.
