Older Olympus digitals will usually work, but we have gotten the best
results with Sony digitals. Specifically we use the Sony ICD-B16 which
has consistently shown a good signal to noise ratio, with good
sensitivity to the fields used by spirits for communication It has poor
electric field shielding, and a cheap electret mike, which are both
essential for good recordings. Most, but not all of the recordings on
http://friendly-ghosts.com/ were captured with one of 3 of these we
have. Unfortunately there were apparently complaints to Sony about
these recorders picking up extra voices, so they discontinued that model
and others like it, and have apparently improved the electrostatic
shielding in the later models, making them almost useless for this
work. We have gotten all or ours off of ebay, for uner $20 each. I
recommend using two recorders at the same time, one sensitive to EVPs
and one not, for a good control. We typically use a video camera's
microphone for the control, they are typically dynamic microphones,
which are totally insensitive to EVPs. Plus you may get both an orb or
apparition as well as its voice speaking to you, as I did on one occasion.
