If you have not come across this by now, here is Kathy Sierra
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Sierra) explaining why she has
decided to move on:

Trouble at the Koolaid Point
http://seriouspony.com/trouble-at-the-koolaid-point

While I am a male and have not experienced anything like what Sierra
has, I am married to someone who is active online (sporadically) and
have two (very) young daughters and I am very troubled by what is
transpiring in the male dominated, "chalta hai" troll-filled online
society that we are helping build.

"But I do think we need more options for online spaces, and I hope one
of those spaces allows the kind of public conversations and learning we
had on Twitter but where women — or anyone — does not feel an
undercurrent of fear watching her follower count increase. Where there’s
no such thing as The Koolaid Point. And I also know the worst possible
approach would be more aggressive banning, or restricting speech
(especially not that), or restricting anonymity. I don’t think Twitter
needs to (or even can, at this point) do anything at all. I think we
need to do something." -- Kathy Sierra

Sierra calls out javaranchers specifically as a great community, though
I am not sure how much of a lesson they can serve as other than that it
is possible.

Does this group have any ideas on what should be done?
