There are lots of Japanese films and anime in particular with political messages. Graveyard of the Fireflies is one - I find it wrenching to watch, and one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. Other Anime with political messages would be Barefoot Gen, most anything by Miyazaki has the twin themes of nostalgia for a simpler (better) time and a strong pro-environmental message. Akira is pretty strongly anti-big-business and anti-government. But even movies like "Godzilla" have a deliberate political message if you're willing to pay attention to it as more than a silly rubber suit movie. -- Charles
