I don't know where you live... but most big cities (in the developing world) i have seen have extremely poor public transport People using it either have no choice or can't afford personal transport. a 100 people packed into a 40 seater bus doesnt seem green to me, because they are all gonna want to buy a motor vehicle to escape from that packed bus.
