I've got it to update my Fb status and my friendfeed, so I reach out to a large group of people. Twitter is perfect if you want quick conversations and instant answers to questions. It is less of a blogging medium for me than, say, flickr is. As for SNR, like Balaji, I cull my followers list once in a while, cutting out those who are either uninteresting or extremely interesting. My twitter is linked with a different email id - one I check rarely - so it helps cut down the "XYZ's following" messages. Twitterfox and Twhirl are my weapons of choice. Twhirl is particularly good.
