i have a lot of respect for people who've actually fought in the army and
risked their lives, even if i disagree with them when they think that it's the
way to solve problems and such "macho" approaches are worth more than the
principles of democracy and self-governance. i don't have respect for
suggestions that _others_ risk their lives for such approaches; sadly, most
people who want to be "tough" want to talk "tough" while others have to be
"tough".

in any case, as sangvi points out, such notions are very 20th century, and will
really hold india back. shiv might rightly note that most indians are not
modern democrats who believe in principles of self governance and rationality
etc; but i would suggest that most indians care more about having healthcare,
food and jobs for themselves and their families than grand notions of national
pride.

stupid nationalism is going to hold china back, and will hold india back too,
unfortunately, stuck in violence and poverty for the many while a few have the
luxury of talking tough.
