I saw many secretive couples at a public park last year on a very hot afternoon in Ahmedabad, many of the women had handkerchiefs masking their faces and wore gigantic sun-glasses to make themselves unrecognizable. I also met an askari who sternly warned me not to take any pictures ( i was carrying a camera...). Later, after I had bought him an ice cream, and he had determined that i was a good guy, he told me was a kind of "guardian" for these lovers - apparently some parents and unscruplous were in the habit of secretly photographing such trysts, and either using it to threaten or blackmail the couples...
