This morning, several days later, it suddenly occurred to me that it is
in fact a different word, and that I know both words, and that the one-l
word means split, and the two-l word means scorched (or close enough).
Hastening to be the first to quote Nash:
The one-l lama,
He's a priest.
The two-l llama,
He's a beast.
And I will bet
A silk pajama
There isn't any
Three-l lllama.
Nash also appended the following footnote, which is eerily apt when
discussing scorching:
The author's attention has been called to a type of conflagration
known as a three-alarmer. Pooh.
