I've never ever been asked for a bribe, including when I was carrying a
massive (50 litre) microwave for a friend.

Once, coming into Chennai, I had 6 bottles in my bag, so it got marked
with chalk as it passed the x-ray. I went up to the red channel and told
the customs officer I wanted to pay duty. He looked at the bottles and
asked me to carry on, saying that "these are not liquor".

I wasn't carrying scotch, you see. Just stuff like Cointreau,
Benedictine, Curacao, and the like.
