Yeah, I think it's to represent that they have a soft, romantic side. I also think that writing that sentence with tongue elsewhere than cheek is an effective signal that one has a lack of imagination. I did take a date to a park in the evening recently, though, and it was overlooking a beach. I didn't see Eugen with his metal detector.
