a) climatecare calculates for a return journey london-bratislava 0,29
tonne carbon emissions and the offset costs gbp 2,20 (about 3,30 euros =

b) atmosfair calculates for the same journey 700 kg carbon emissions and
the offset costs 15 euros.
(= 21,43 / tonne).

One legitimate reason the numbers may vary is that there is a higher
impact for emissions high up in the atmosphere than from on the
ground. Usually considered to be in the 3x area for airplanes. So
arguably offsetting airline emissions should take that into account.

Of-course there's also different planes having different loads and
fuel efficiencies. Don't get too hung up on getting the number
exactly right.

has anybody looked into the issue of carbon offsets more closely and can
recommend me a good organisation?

I read a reasonable sounding article a few days back and book marked
