Can you confirm that this is happening from your experience? The last company I worked for fired every single person with foreign languages since they were "too expensive".
Very simple - the companies have clients with European/Japanese/Korean operations, and therefore people who speak those languages are in demand. I have seen this in several companies so far, including two that I have worked at.
