Unf. too many people in this increasingly insane world seem to have
forgotten this basic tenet of enlightened civilization. Whether it's
Americans justifying all sorts of intrusive, egregious pre-emptive
measures out of 911-induced post-traumatic stress disorder and
hysteria, or this sort of European uber-knee jerk political
correctness, the trend is towards holding people responsible for not
only what they do, but also what they say and think. And, most
worryingly, the trend includes holding people responsible for what
*other people* think they've said or thought! (Note that I'm not
defending the holocaust denier's opinion, here, merely *his right to
have it and express it.*)
IMHO, much of it grounds out in religion. Many flavors of
Christianity hold it true that a sin committed in thought only is
just as sinful. :-/
