though I don't have anything construtive to add, I want to add a comment to one sentence that struck me:1

Funnily, I watched recently a show called "Die Anstalt" (The Institution) which satirically explains political and social issues. In that last episode they discussed how the conflict in Palestine could be resolved, and their conclusion was: "the British are to blame". And they coudn't offer any solution. But they gave lots of insights into the development of the conflict. It was funny, even though the issue as such is extremely sad and distressing.
