I'll make a couple of recommendations. One by former silklister Kalayan
Raman who has translated numerous Tamil works, notably including the works
of Ashokamitran.

Another is my uncle KS Subramanian who has also translated many works,
notably those of his friend and drinking buddy Jayakanthan.

Plenty of links available on a simple search. Happy to lend you some
physical books if you like. :)
