Subject: Re: [Silk] Things that are going well

Lovely question Udhay.

Good things:
1. Lovely translation projects, some unpaid, some underpaid but the content
keeps my brain buzzing, it makes me so happy. I no longer complain about
not having good work.
2. Translated a feminist Spanish poem by a Salvadoran woman poet to Hindi.
What a wild ride! I've attached a short essay below on the troubles
associated with translating a single word!
3. Became a member of the local translators' association (couldn't get in
without having translated 80,000 words).
4. Made some friends in the translation world including some really
inspiring ones. A work community is possible without a shared office.
5. This feeling that there is so much to learn and enjoy. I love my 50s way
more than my 20s.
6. Learning new rhythms and exploring my ukulele. Found 3 different ways to
play a G7chord. Can play a Latin roll now with a couple of songs.
7. Have written more often than ever before in my journal since July 28th.
short poems, reflections on Asemkulov's epic novel, A Life at Noon, all
kinds of things at the margins of the central hum, reeling them by sitting
with them. Also, the reading has become more voracious, more varied.
Reading my first narconovela now, Resurrección by Jaime Mesa.
8. Watching my 12-yr-old son slowly morph. So amazing and so beautiful this
transition.
9. Exercising 5 days a week is happening (to my great surprise) and the
skipping rope is my best friend.

I really owe a lot to the year 2020.

All the best to all of you.
Radhika
