Hi SBers, Its been a while since I've mailed the list. I just wanted to share a project that my mate Herbert (@debounce <http://twitter.com/debounce>) and I (@shaond <http://twitter.com/shaond>) have been hacking on for *NSW Year 12 HSC students*.
We're a little embarrassed to have it publicly launched, but in true lean startup style - we're going to bite the bullet and get it out there. Front page: http://mathbrain.com.au Exam practise: http://mathbrain.com.au/exam/ Our hope is that some of you forward the links above to those that could benefit (i.e. any Year 12's you know!). *tl;dr* Essentially, the site helps Year 12 students prepare for their mathematics paper by helping students sharpen their exam technique & helping them get practise - with mock exams generated from past HSC questions. We need *YOUR* help to pass on this email to anyone you think could benefit: students, teachers, tuition classes, competitors! If you are part of an alumni group that you think could benefit, please feel free to pass this on... it would be greatly appreciated - we'll buy you a beer at the next SB drinks! *The unabridged story* So, not so long ago Herb and I used to be HSC students - and one of the things that sucked about studying for the HSC was that, getting good marks for each paper wasn't just about mastering the coursework, it was also about mastering exam technique. Our aim with the site was to *help students master exam technique*. This should be particularly helpful for students about to enter into their HSC Trial exam period this August. *The future* We don't have a plan per se for the site, however we're going to keep it free and freshen it up with more content - no grand scheme to make a billion dollar site here. Importantly, we're hoping that it becomes popular amongst students that may not have the opportunity to go to top dollar coaching classes - particularly rural communities and lower socio-economic groups. As an aside, for those interested in programming, we're able to generate questions automatically (via code) for some HSC topics and might make this a more significant feature of the site. This would mean we could supplement existing questions with our own ones - generated through code. Additionally, we're going to add a past papers section that could be helpful for students to get their maths resources all in one centralised spot. *Why we need your help* Please pass on this email to anyone that you think could benefit from using the exam timer - especially students, teachers and tuition classes etc. Also, if you like what we stand for and what we're doing, we'd love for you to 'like' us on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/mathbrainEDU . We'd love to get feedback on what areas to improve, so please, please, please, do pass those along via our feedback form on the site or reply off-list at: sh...@shaon.net Thanks in advance guys!!!
