Didn't know about the Pollenizer background. Pollenizer alumni seem to have great success with names prefixing with 99. Maybe I might just name my next project 99<name> and apply to Pollenizer ;)
That aside, I actually don't blame the people in the comments for feeling the way they feel. The article makes it out to be that a young Aussie girl selling clothes online is on route to becoming a millionaire. It is people who know Nikki (incidentally I don't) who know how brilliant and hardworking she is that can discern fact from fiction. Others who know about Ycombinator will understand that it is not the lottery ticket the media made it out to be, rather it is opening a new chapter of a startup life where they have to work harder. Success is not guaranteed. Acceptance into Ycombinator also means that there is far more to just being an "online store selling dresses" which Paul Graham and team saw. This is what the media doesn't know and didn't report which is probably what stirred up the naysayers. Obviously the acceptance into Ycombinator, shows that Paul Graham and team believed in the personality, character of Nikki and team to execute their vision. This again is what most of the naysayers, who believe that having a brilliant idea alone is enough, wouldn't know .
