Hi Bec, I am a financial adviser who works in the professional side of insurances (protecting people). You seem to be looking for the ‘general insurance’ side (protecting things).
If you are looking for general insurance, be sure to ask the broker if they are an independent broker (ie: they can access any product on the market) or whether they are owned by a particular company (ie: are restricted to supplying only one brand of product). At least this way with will have an idea if they have ‘considered different product’ that may be more appropriate to your situation. On the people side, I can help with the following: * Life insurance, (covers your estate if you pass away, and pays out upon a terminal illness) * Crisis Insurance (where you insure against a specified health crisis ie: cancers etc) * Income Protection insurance (pays 75% of your income if through sickness or injury you cannot work. (this is immediately available for PAYG but not to newly self employed people for 12 months). It’s important to get IP cover established whilst you are working for wages before you go out on your own. What you may not know is that Income Protection insurance & Life insurance can now be paid for out of a superannuation fund once a year. That’s often frees up personal cash flow if you can make use of your superannuation now. * Business Overheads & Key Person Cover with Buy & Sell agreements (this is where multiple owners to a business (and their families) need to be covered in the event of one of them getting sick and being unable to continue. A Buy and Sell agreement establishes ahead of time how such an event will be treated and what financial provision is available to buy out partners etc. This is a useful thing to have in place before you seek large funding as a ‘business continuity’ plan may lower the risk profile of your business and lower the interest rate. Hope this helps you in understanding the future options in insurances. Feel free to ask any questions as they arise. cheers Drew Browne On May 23, 9:51 pm, Bec Coleman <[email protected]> wrote: > Hey everyone, > > I¹m setting up a new business, and have been given a couple of business > insurance quotes (for public & product liability and professional > indemnity).
