Dear list, This afternoon I was at the Eco-Investors Forum in Sydney.
One of the presentations was by Griffith Hack, the IP Lawyers explaining their new IP "importance model" (not official name but I forgot what they called it). Basically, using data mining from patent applications it measures the relative importance of various patents. They say is uses an algorithm originally developed to measure influence in social networks. It looks very cool and they *ONLY* charge $20,000 for the service. I think you could make a cheaper / simpler version fairly quickly. But Griffith Hack has applied for 10 different patents, naturally! Why it would be easy. 1. Full patents database is available free 2. Data very clean and predicable 3. Lots of open source social network analysis software # Graphviz, open source graph visualization software. # Maltego Community Edition, an open source intelligence and forensics application; allows you to identify key relationships and networks.
