So, back in they way old days when we used to use RFC-1918 address
space in LANs and NAT that at the router, the router was in a perfect
position to apply upstream (i.e. ISP) preference.

Not so much with IPv6.

Because each host in the LAN now has a fully routable IP address, and
multiple of them in the case of Multi-ISP, the router (i.e. shorewall)
is no longer able to effect ISP preference and apply (shorewall)
provider attributes like "fallback". As far as I can tell.

This is all of course because each host in the LAN is now able to
select it's routable source IP address and the (shorewall) router can
only make sure the traffic at least goes out the correct interface for
the ISP providing that IP address to the LAN host.

So is ISP preference in an IPv6 world completely cooked now?

Is there a tool/configuration/setting in the IPv6 world for a (multiple
ISP serving) gateway to influence IPv6 hosts into choosing the source
address for the ISP route that the router wants the hosts to use and
restore this upstream ISP preference behaviour?

Cheers,
b.
