It looks like a browser security feature is removing passwords over unencrypted Internet connections. I did not investigate further.
Another, even safer solution would be to change your login form to replicate what xpra's connection dialog does and not use GET or POST at all for sending the configuration options. You can place the options in the browser's "sessionStorage" area using Javascript and the password will never be sent across the Internet.
