I think we should we require a leading / on the AltTempDir setting for an 
absolute path?

That can save some confusion.  I just tested and can get hsperfdata_xxx created 
in a subdir of working directory.

Also, otherwise the use of "root%s" in perfMemory_posix.cpp won't work.
