The JSR-160 specification was updated for Java 8 so that the RMI connector wasn't require to support the IIOP transport. RMI-IIOP was eventually removed in Java 11 (JEP 320). As I recall, RMIIIOPServerImpl was for implementers but was/is part of API so it couldn't be removed.
