Perhaps lokkit was upgraded with RH 8.0, which I have not migrated to
yet. RH 7.1 lokkit uses ipchains, I'm pretty sure. Iptables is newer
than ipchains. The difference in structure is subtle, but powerful. :)

Hey, I still think of myself as a newbie in most areas. We all have to
take the time to learn.

You're welcome.

My best guess would be a loop within your rulesets. For example, if you
inadvertently had a jump to a chain that contained an explicit jump to
some point upstream of itself? This is just a wild guess, without
seeing your configuration.

I've never actually seen iptables crash! When you do solve the problem,
could you please post the cause and the fix, so the rest of us can dodge
the same bullet? That would be great! Thanks. :)

Regards,
Jim
