well, from the defective machine, I can browse with a web browser to my IP and it 
fires quick, no problem.  I haven't tried to ftp/ssh but I would assume it would also 
work from there.  But it seems like I can't try it again...it's working again from the 
win2000 box.  2 times now, both evenings it wouldn't work...following morning it 
worked great...
this is really getting weird...I haven't fiddled with any NIC or cable...halloween 
isn't it?
