For some reason the latest rawhide kernels are available for i386 and i686
only. I need an i586smp version for an old dual-Pentium/90 server we have
here in the shop. I've tried to rebuild:
# rpm --rebuild --target i586 kernel-2.4.9-0.18.src.rpm
Installing kernel-2.4.9-0.18.src.rpm
Building target for platforms: i586
Building for target i586
Error: Architecture is not included: i586
Perhape more ominous, I eventually see the following error message when
attempting to rebuild for i386:
...
+++ df /def/sda6
++ echo 150
+ '[' 150 -lt 400 ']'
+ echo 'build root /var/tmp/kernel-2.4.9-0.18-root has insufficient disk space'
build root /var/tmp/kernel-2.4.9-0.18-root has insufficient disk space
+ exit 1
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.99272 (%build)
RPM build errors:
Bad exist status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.99272 (%build)
This looks like a kernel RPM rebuild requires at least 400M available in
/var. I created this system with Roswell-2 CDs specifying a standard
server configuration which partitioned the 7G firmware RAID5 array like this:
# df -Th
Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda5 ext3 372M 133M 220M 38% /
/dev/sda1 ext3 45M 13M 30M 29% /boot
/dev/sda3 ext3 1.6G 94M 1.4G 6% /home
none tmpfs 30M 0M 30M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda2 ext3 4.4G 2.6G 1.6G 62% /usr
/dev/sda6 ext3 251M 87M 150M 37% /var
If I read this correctly, I can never rebuild a kernel RPM on a system
configured as a standard out-of-the-box server.
Thoughts, anybody?
