Please help out an increasingly confused Newbie! I need to install QT library (qt-2.2.4-tar.gz) Kdelibs packages and Kdebase (minimum) and I have read the FAQ and download notes also the IINSTALL notes in QT. The latter sayI may need to be root and must start by unpacking the archive into /user/local . However I get file not found from root after doing cd /user/local and gunzip "package". Is this because I downloaded into the home directory under my user login? I tried copying the QT package to /user/local only to find this is not allowed. I would be verg glad of an explanation of what I am doing wrong! Befor I tear my hair out- Nick Watts
