OK, as nobody seemed to have a better solution I decided to stay with my
initial idea (two mirror sets) with a slight change. Instead of using UFS
slices for the root & swap filesystems I installed to whole system on zfs pool.

As I used OpenSolaris for some time I wanted to give SXCE (snv_93) a change on
my home server. Now I' wondering what would be the best setup for my disks.
I have two 300GiB PATA disks* in stock, two 160G SATA disks** in use by my old
linux server and - maybe for temporary use - an external 160G
