Use
boot -m milestone=none
to have startup cease prior to any services being started. You can
then either use "svcadm milestone all", and watch startup from your
shell, or enable services individually.

document to this effect would help, then we can make drafting one a
priority. (If, instead, the goal is to document how Sun's service
organization handles service requests, then that's not really
appropriate for OpenSolaris to tackle.)
