zpool in the confidence that the old zpool will never show its ugly face
again? If I just do a format I reckon that traces of the old zpool is
still there, is there any tool that will permanently destroy an zpool?

a drive which belonged to one pool as if it was belonging to another
pool. Could this happen with other non-USB drives in other configuration
scenarios such as mirrors or raidz?
I suppose anything can happen on Friday the 13th...
