I want to experiment with putting my root file system on my routerstation pro
on the internal flash.
I followed the directions from
http://www.yoctoproject.org/download/bsp/ubiquiti-networks-routerstation-pro-routerstationpro-0
to load the kernel into flash and to modify the bootloader to mount
e, but the qemu window stays black.
I would try one of the pre-built images to isolate the problem between running
inside virtualbox and your build.

File a bugzilla report or is there a reason for that configuration?

I noticed that the routerstation pro hardware no longer appears on
Ubiquiti Networks product page. Their sales rep confirmed it is being
EOL February 1, 2012. Since that is the Yocto reference MIPS
platform, I thought you would like to know.
It does make my problem with Mediatomb seg faulting on

demo-image-mediatomb (mediatomb does not segfault).
I'm having some trouble on the Atom platform but I think it is operator error,
not host platform.

Thank you. Nice job... you managed to anticipate and answer my
question before I asked it.
Maybe I'll tackle updating the demo but I have a lot to learn.

message that "ERROR: Nothing PROVIDES 'demo-image-mediatomb'"
Obviously I have missed a step to tell poky how to find that image but
so far I have not been able to google the answer to my mistake.
