Hmm, it's my expectation that this should behave the same as Vim, which
does not extend an additional line.

I noticed that quite a few issue are really old, some long fixed, some
where never bugs, and I cannot close them.

I believe it is intentional behaviour: status bar is extended by one line.

It occurs on Linux with GHC 7.4.2, but only when Yi package is currently
broken.
Please try `cabal install --reinstall yi`.
