it would do and this just caused more problems
elsewhere in the build, so I gave up on that.
Is there some problem with `visibility' here? Or
should `cvt' be linked against some extra libraries?

I re-configured with gcc as CC, this time only
running the compiler in the `cvt' subdirectory,
with success. I then noticed the -fvisibility=hidden
option amongst the morass of link options.
I then re-configured, CC=cc, and then noticed -xldscope=hidden which
escaped my attention before.
In any c
n locale, but I have never
seen an explanation of a fix. I am using LOCALE=C, nothing
special (I have set the default system to C as well).
